Allan Rohan Crite (1910-2007) was a Boston based artist known as a chronicler of urban African-American life. From the age of 1 until his death, he lived in Boston's South End neighborhood. One of the few African Americans employed by the Federal Art Project, in 1940 he took a job as an engineering draftsman with the Boston Naval Shipyard, where he worked for 30 years. He graduated from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 1936 and his work was shown at the Museum of Modern Art that same year. He was deeply spiritual and his work reflects this.
