19th Century Carved Wood Chair in Antique Quilt Fragment and Overshot
19th Century Carved Wood Chair in Antique Quilt Fragment and Overshot
19th century elaborately carved side chair upholstered in late 19th-early 20th century hand sewn quilt fragment on the seat, late 19th century blue overshot on the exposed back side, and antique homespun linen on the back rest. The quilt fragment is without batting and made up of calicos, homespuns, indigo, and turkey red fabrics.
The finials, stiles, stretcher and legs are all decoratively carved. When we found this chair, it retained its original horsehair stuffing. This chair had been nearly discarded and shows wear from having been poorly stored for some time. It remains sturdy and functional.
We design these pieces under our collaborative label CRMJOB, releasing a small number each year.
Condition: As mentioned, the wood shows wear, heavy in some areas, old repairs and surface scratches and marks. The quilt fragment has old and new mends and some discoloration from age.
